President's Note

Railway Swimming Club – Welcome to Season 2018 - 2019

Hi and welcome to all Railway Swimming Club members, new and old.

The committee held the club’s AGM recently and I wanted to pass on the outcomes from the meeting and welcome our past and present members to the upcoming 2018 – 2019 swimming club season.

I’d like to offer my appreciation to our past committee for their hard work and dedication, and welcome our new committee as follows:

President:  Craig Wright
Secretary:  Emma Profke
Treasurer:  Melissa Albion
Registrar:  Linsey Sullivan
Patron:   TBC
BSA Delegate:  Craig Wright

Committee Members:
Belinda Allen
Rhonda Moran
Kathryn Wright

Our first club night is set for Friday October 12, 2018 at the Leichhardt pool. As always, we will have committee members at the pool from approximately 5.30 pm on the first night to assist our returning and new members.

I’m pleased to report that we will continue to have our BBQ. This is a wonderful service for our members and of course serves as a fund raiser for the club, so for those of you who would like to partake, this is a great hassle-free dinner for you and your swimmers. Thanks again to the Moran family for being so willing to manage this.

Having said that, I’m sure they will need assistance cooking and serving throughout the season, so your assistance there would be greatly appreciated.

As we head into the new season, we will continue to strive to offer a fun environment for our young members and encourage new members, friends and family to come along to continue the rebuild of our great club that has been operational since 1902.

The club has been in a rebuilding mode for several years now and as I’ve said above, we need your help by being involved in the club, helping with the running and of course, we really would love for you to bring your friends along to join us.

This year, the committee has decided to implement club nights on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. So basically, we will start on Friday October 12, have a week off and return the following week and so on. Please keep in mind, this is the second and fourth Fridays of every month, not every second Friday.

The committee thought that we would try this initiative as it may suit our younger families. This is not set in stone and if we have families that can see issues with this or have concerns or would have other preferences, please contact me to discuss. Ultimately, we want to provide the best and experience for our families that we can.

The committee is always working hard in the background with the view to being able to reduce our club membership costs and to make club swimming fun, exciting and affordable.

Last year, the club absorbed the costs of pool entry to achieve this and reduced our membership fees to just $50.00 per swimmer, for the whole season, all inclusive.

You may be aware that the pool is now being operated by a new lessee, Justin Lemberg and his pool manager Di through the business “Just Sports n Fitness”. Justin and Di are looking forward to working with the club to create a partnership where we can assist each other grow. With that said, I’m excited to report that Justin has very generously decided to have no charge for our swimmers to swim this season.

The committee looks forward to working with you. We need our members to assist in running the club and ask that you all look to look to take on a committee position which will ensure the ongoing viability of our great club.

I thank you in advance for your continued support.
